Sansepolcro’s origins date back to the X century, when two pilgrims, Egidio and Arcano,  coming back from holy land, founded the “Abbey of Santo Sepolcro”.
In the Age of Commons Sansepolcro passed under the Medici’s grip, lords of Florence, who built a beautiful fortress still commendable on the north-east side of the town.
The perimeter of Sansepolcro remembers, according to tradition, a campsite. It is said, in fact, that the Romans stopped here along the way back from their campains.
 Sansepolcro is the town that gave birth to Piero della Francesca, famous painter inventor of the perspective, as well as to Luca Pacioli, who created the method of double-entry, widely used in accountability.
