One of the world's newest International Arts Festivals is set for success this summer. The Tuscan Sun Festival , takes place in Cortona, one of Italy's most beautiful Tuscan towns and makes a spectacular backdrop, to a feast of global talent. This years line-up includes Martha Argerich, Sharon Stone, Jeremy Irons and much more The Tuscan Sun Festival, held in Cortona, is delighted to announce details of their line-up. The Festival will run from 31 July to 7 August 2011. Concert tickets for the performances in Teatro Signorelli are now on sale. This year’s programme brings together a prestigious line-up of artists from the worlds of classical music, dance, visual art and Hollywood, in a unique celebration of the
arts and the Tuscan lifestyle. The Festival will showcase the very best from across the artistic spectrum to cater for every musical and artistic taste. Highlights of the main Festival programme Music lovers will be enthralled by the opening concert on Monday 1 August featuring the legendary pianist Martha Argerich. In an evening dedicated to Argentina and its most seductive dance, Ms. Argerich leads an exceptional night of Tango variations by composers such as Ginastera, Piazzolla
and Bacalov. Joined by Argentinian friends such as Oscar-winning composer for Il Postino, Luis Bacalov, Rafael Gintoli, Nestor Marconi and Eduardo Hubert, it is a rare opportunity to hear the acclaimed Martha Argerich as she and the ensemble bring the Tango to life in the intimate venue of Teatro Signorelli. The concert on Tuesday 2 August is a must for classical music fans, bringing together violinist Pinchas Zukerman, flautist Andrea Griminelli and cellist Amanda Forsyth in a programme
of Mozart, Tchaikovsky and Saint-Saëns, and accompanied by the Orchestra della Toscana. Pinchas Zukerman returns to the platform on Wednesday 3 August with his Chamber ensemble in a programme of Mozart, Brahms and Schumann. The Festival welcomes back stars of the ballet, Maxim Beloserkovsky and Irina Dvorovenko, who take to the stage on Thursday 4 August with Sharon Stone and Jeremy Irons in Seduction, Smoke and Music – The love story of Chopin and George Sand.
Combined with music performed by Nina Kotova (cello) and Lucy Parham (piano) this stellar line-up promises to light up the evening and enchant the audience on the narrative journey through the two lovers’ letters. In a tribute to Franz Schubert on Friday 5 August, celebrated violinist Michael Guttman leads fellow musicians in Schubertiade, a performance featuring the composer’s music set in the comfortable salon atmosphere of Schubert’s era. Repertoire will include well-loved pieces such
as Death and the Maiden, Impromptu and The Trout as well as poetry from Schubert’s contemporaries.
World-renowned pianist Leif Ove Andsnes and rising guitar star Miloš Karadaglić on guitar perform classical concerti on Saturday 6 August, accompanied once again by the Orchestra della Toscana, before beloved soprano Danielle de Niese and cellist Nina Kotova bring the Festival to a rapturous close on Sunday 7 August, with a programme of classical and baroque works accompanied by the
superb chamber ensemble, I Virtuosi del Teatro della Scala. A strong wellness, culinary and wine, local culture and history elements have been tightly woven into the Festival 2011 programme, supporting the Festival’s dedication to Cortona, its traditions and surroundings. For the daytime events, the Festival is pleased to announce that Lucia Dalbon, Dr. Song and Anne-Marie Morison return to lead morning tai-chi classes, Chinese medicine talks and demonstrations and a Tango dance class
respectively. Due to the overwhelming and enthusiastic response to Trudie Styler‘s session during the 2010 Festival, the Festival is delighted that she will return to lead two yoga and pilates classes.
