Nature and the landscape together contribute to the wealth and heritage of the territory.
It is for this reason that
we would suggest an itinerary amongst the green areas, the parks, reserves and landscapes each with its own characteristics. The naturalistic route begins some kilometres from San Giovanni Valdarno, in the Parco di Cavriglia of more than 600 hectares surrounded by woods of chestnut and fir trees where mountain sheep, deer and other animals live freely in an area criss-crossed by numerous paths to be discovered on foot, on horse back or by bicycle.
Continuing on towards Castelnuovo
dei Sabbioni, and having passed San Giovanni Valdarno we follow the directions for Castelfranco di Sopra and and we’re instantly driving through the extraordinary landscape of the Balze. 2,372 hectares in area, it extends into the Valdarno territory of Pratomagno taking in the comuni of Terranuova Bracciolini, Pian di Scò, Castelfranco di Sopra and Loro Ciuffenna. The morphological nature of the territory made up of gullies and valleys has created a landscape of particular
fascination and of great environmental importance. Travelling through this countryside also means coming across landscapes painted by Leonardo da Vinci as background to some of his paintings. Travelling southwards another few kilometres and we are inside another park. The Nature Reserve of the Valle dell’Inferno e di Bandella. The area extends for about 526 hectares and includes the comuni of Terranuova Bracciolini, Pergine Valdarno, Laterina and
Montevarchi with a very varied flora including Turkey oak, British oak alternating with willows, black poplars, common oak and holm oak. From the numerous bridges along the way varied bird-life is visible. The naturalistic itinerary concludes just outside Arezzo and inside the Nature Reserve of Ponte Buriano e Penna. The area extends for about 665 hectares and includes the comuni of Arezzo, Civitella in Valdichiana and Laterina. The flora and fauna are very
varied and include willows, black poplars, and field elms which are some of the species present along the river banks. |
