 The origins of Castel Rigone date back to the Ostrogoti, when Arrigo (or Rigone), Totila’s lieutenant, used the place to control the beset of Perugia.
In the Middle Age, around the late 1200, a castle was built to defend the local inhabitants. Some of the walls are still there as well as three towers and two entrance doors (Porta Ponente and Porta Monterone).

Thanks to its beautiful panoramic position, Castel Rigone is famous for people who like open air activities.
Famous is the fresco of Gian Battista Caporali, in the church of La Madonna dei miracoli.
